Living in Spalding
This is the perfect location for house hunters looking for somewhere beautiful to live that can deliver on services and amenities, and that doesn’t feel too remote. Named for its distinctive small octagonal chapel (first erected in 1772), Moulton Chapel is surrounded by wide open fields and breathtaking countryside. Along with St James’ chapel, there is a second Grade II listed building in the village – the striking red-brick tower windmill which stands on the same road as Chapel Gate.
Just four miles north-west is the attractive fenland town of Spalding, famous for its abundance of tulips! Situated on the River Welland, it is a traditional market town which also offers a mixture of small independent shops and national high street chains catering to all tastes. There are a number of historic buildings, including four excellent museums in and around the town, a sports complex and an arts centre that stages concerts, theatre productions and film screenings.
Another fenland market town, with its numerous local shops, tea rooms and restaurants, Holbeach is in the opposite direction – just five miles north-east. There are two markets in Holbeach every week, and an additional Farmers Market once a month.
For those who wish to venture further than the market towns of Spalding and Holbeach, the bright lights of Peterborough are 25 minutes away and visitors can enjoy the superb arts, entertainment and shopping facilities on offer there, as well as a varied calendar of festivals and events.
There are several excellent nurseries, primary and secondary schools all within easy reach of Chapel Gate. These include Moulton Chapel Primary School, rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted, along with Spalding Academy also rated ‘Good’.
